Coventry Farmers’ Market Heralds in Homegrown Thanksgiving
On November 23, from 11-2 PM, food lovers and gift hunters alike can welcome the holidays by shopping at the Coventry Farmers’ Harvest Market. This special market reunion will be a premier shopping destination for a mouthwatering range of fresh, local foods perfect for a homemade holiday feast. Look for organic greens, heirloom apples, honey, beeswax candles, artisan soaps, fudge and sparkling jars of preserves, farmstead cheese and rustic breads. Farmers’ market patrons get a last chance to stock up on winter keepers like squash, potatoes, beets, pears and garlic while shopping for unusual and delicious holiday gifts.
Coventry’s summertime farmers’ market is the state’s largest, drawing over 55,000 visitors in 2008. The demand for year-round access to locally-grown foods is increasing. Market organizers in Coventry report that they will use the Harvest Market event as a means of gauging interest for a future winter market in the town. “We anticipate the Harvest Market will be the perfect place to stock up on fresh foods for Thanksgiving and a great kickoff for handmade and homegrown holiday shopping," says market master Roberta Wilmot. The Coventry Farmers’ Harvest Market will be located at Coventry High School on Ripley Hill Road. The event is free and open to the public.
