Daniel M. Lynch, author of Google Your Family Tree: Unlock the Hidden Power of Google, will speak at the Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut on Sunday, October 18, at 1:30 PM. In his book, which will be available for purchase at the meeting, Lynch shows the reader how to tap the full potential of the Internet's most significant free online service!
Google is the most powerful tool available for online research, with more than 20 billion pages in its index of the Web. Some will likely contain clues about your ancestors. Finding these pages requires an understanding of filtering, and other techniques that enable the user to refine searches and discover highly relevant results, rather than millions of unrelated items.
A marketing consultant and genealogist based in Connecticut, the author was vice president at Ancestry.com, and is a consultant to The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, (ellisisland.org), and FindMyPast (findmypast.com), which is based in the United Kingdom. He has appeared on national television and has written articles which appeared in leading genealogy publications.
The free program will be held at Godfrey Memorial Library, 134 Newfield Street, in Middletown. The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut, formed in 1988, houses its library at the Godfrey. The collection of books, periodicals, and audiotapes is available for borrowing by members, and is open before and after each program. Look at our new website: www.jgsct-jewish-genealogy.org.
