Colin Firth (born Sep. 10, 1960 in Grayshott, Hampshire, England) is a film, stage, and television actor. Although primarily an actor in British productions, Firth has gained a lot of notoriety for some of his film roles in the United States.
Firth grew up in various parts of the world, as his parents were missionaries. Born in England, he also spent some of his childhood in Nigeria and St. Louis, MO before moving back to England in his adolescence and beginning his acting education.
Firth begin his professional acting career in 1983, however he did not gain international notoriety until acting in BBC's television adaptation of the classic Jane Austen book "Pride and Prejudice." His role as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy elevated him to heartthrob status, which landed him the role of Mark Darcy opposite Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant in 2001's "Bridget Jone's Diary."
2001 would see Firth act in perhaps his most well-known role in the United States in the BBC/HBO television film "Conspiracy" - a dramatization of the 1942 Wannsee Conference - alongside Kenneth Branagh anf Stanley Tucci.
His role as Wilhelm Stuckart earn him a Emmy® Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor- Miniseries or a Movie.
Other notables Firth has been involved in include "Shakespeare in Love" (1998), "The Importance of Being Earnest" (2002), "Love Actually" (2003), and "Mamma Mia!" (2008).
Firth married Italian film producer Livia Giuggioli in 1997, and the couple have two sons.
