Since 1974, this Canadian progressive rock band has released eighteen studio albums, produced 78 singles, and has sold over forty million albums worldwide. They are ranked only behind The Beatles and Rolling Stones in terms of sales, and they are showing no signs of slowing down, as is evidenced by the Rush 2011 concert schedule. Rush tour dates are scheduled at nearly forty shows this spring and summer.
These Canadian rockers burst onto the scene in the mid-seventies, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1974. Rush continued rockin' through the seventies, cementing their place in rock and roll history with the release of 2112, which garnered massive commercial success. This concept album tells the story of a future society plagued by authoritarian rule. The album proved to be a runaway success and is listed as one of the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die." The other Rush album fortunate enough to be listed on the same survey, Moving Pictures, was released in 1981 and remains the band's biggest commercial success ever. The album spawned the classic crowd favorites, "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight", and was certified four times platinum.
Album after album, Rush has continued to achieve gold and platinum certification, and the guys don't plan on throwing in the towel any time soon. They have continued to evolve their style, experimenting with different musical elements and even making the odd foray into other forms of media. The band's music and persona was heavily featured in the film, I Love You, Man,, serving as the main bond between the film's main characters as they form a Rush garage cover band. More recently, the band received a star on Hollywood Boulevard and received Billboard's "Legends of Live" award for their contribution to live music and the concert experience.
Rush is currently wrapping up production for their 19th LP, Clockwork Angels, which is set for release in Spring, 2011. The band is currently on tour for their extensive "Time Machine Tour," which began in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 29, 2010. The international tour has taken them throughout North and South America and has been extended throughout Spring, 2011. The Rush concert schedule has them embarking on the European leg of "Time Machine," this May, 2011 and they are slated to return to North America for the final summer leg of the tour. This iconic progressive rock band is known for their energetic live shows which continue to sell out, just as they did back in the seventies.
